The Industry Standard for Portable Brinell Hardness Testing
For over 70 years, the King Brinell Hardness Tester has been the definitive solution for portable, on-site metal hardness analysis. Lightweight, easy to maneuver, and requiring only a single operator, this hydraulic tester delivers the accuracy of a benchtop machine in a portable package.
Ideal for testing large, heavy, or immobile workpieces—such as castings, forgings, pipes, and engine blocks—the King Brinell system meets rigorous ASTM E-10, ASTM E-110, and ISO 17025 standards. It is the preferred choice for petrochemical, aerospace, and heavy manufacturing industries worldwide.
Key Features & Advantages
✔ Unmatched Accuracy
- Calibrated to apply a full 3000 kgf load.
- NIST Traceable calibration.
- Accurate to within 0.5% of load.
- Permanent impression can be re-read at any time.
✔ Rugged Durability
- Uses a certified Tungsten Carbide ball for longevity.
- Stroke limiter reduces operator error.
- Designed for harsh shop floor and field environments.
- Solid hydraulic system prevents overloading.
✔ Extreme Versatility
- Operates in any position: upright, sideways, or upside down.
- Interchangeable bases for testing parts of any size.
- Standard Flat, Dome, and "V" anvils included.
- Portable: Take the tester to the part, not the part to the tester.
Principle of Operation
The King Brinell Tester utilizes a massive 3,000 kg load on a 10mm tungsten carbide ball to make a lasting impression on the test specimen. This high-load method is essential for testing materials with coarse grain structures (like cast iron or steel) where lighter load methods would yield inconsistent results.
- Clamp: Place the specimen between the anvil and test head. Crank the head down to lock the tester in place.
- Load: Close the pressure release valve and pump the hydraulic lever until the calibrated load (3000 kgf) is reached. The pop-off valve activates automatically to prevent overloading.
- Read: Release the pressure, remove the tester, and read the impression diameter using a Brinell microscope (KingScope) to determine the BHN.
