Theory of Texture Analysis

A Texture Analyzer measures how a sample reacts to applied stress such as compression, tension, shear, or bending, transforming physical responses into precise numerical values representing hardness, firmness, elasticity, adhesiveness, brittleness, and gel strength.

The QualiTEXA™ Series Texture Analyzer applies regulated mechanical forces to a specimen while accurately recording resistance force, displacement, and time-based responses. The resulting force–distance and force–time curves replicate real-life interactions such as chewing, spreading, cutting, puncturing, and stretching. This methodology replaces subjective sensory evaluation with consistent, repeatable, and traceable data, supporting product development, quality assurance, and research workflows.

Method of Operation

The QualiTEXA™ Series Texture Analyzer functions through three primary stages: controlled deformation, precision data capture, and analytical parameter processing.

Controlled Mechanical Deformation

A calibrated probe—such as a compression platen, cylinder, blade, needle, or custom fixture—is driven toward or away from the sample at defined speed, distance, load, or time settings. Based on the selected test method, the system can apply:
