QualiPIG is a Paint Inspection Gauge designed for situations where traditional electromagnetic measuring methods are ineffective, particularly for coatings on wood, concrete, plastics, and other non-metallic substrates.
Testing with the QualiPIG Paint Inspection Gauge follows the standardized wedge cut procedure: the coating is sliced at a defined angle, penetrating the substrate. The layer thickness (s) is then calculated based on the slope projection (b) of the cut face, determined using a measuring microscope, and the cutting angle (α). This method allows for determining the individual layer thickness of multilayer systems.
Paint Inspection Gauge QualiPIG
The QualiPIG Paint Inspection Gauge features a black-painted aluminum block housing several key components:
- Exchangeable carbide tip with precision-ground angular cutting blade (comes with 4 cutters):
- Cutter No.1: Measuring range: 20-2,800μm (Factor: 20 μm)
- Cutter No.2: Measuring range: 10-1,400μm (Factor: 10 μm)
- Cutter No.3: Measuring range: 5-700μm (Factor: 5 μm)
- Cutter No.4: Measuring range: 2-2,800μm (Factor: 2μm)
- Measuring microscope with a 30x magnification and a reticle (2.8mm with 1/140 division), suitable for inspection tasks.
- Two-wheel design for stable and uniform cutting.
- Battery compartment for a 1.5 V battery.
- Combination of LED and fiber-optic light guide for optimal specimen illumination with low current consumption.
This Paint Inspection Gauge conforms to standards such as ISO 2808-6B, ASTM D 4138, and AS 1580 Meth 408.1.
